I have taken part in a number of conversations over the past few days, online and in person, where Hillary was being excoriated or, where some one wanted to know what all the anger at Hillary was about. Some are asking why Obama supporters can't just be happy "he won" and go celebrate. Why must they (I say they because I never viewed myself as a Hillary hater. I was/am an Obama preferer.) I posted the quote below in a comment on the knoxviews discussion blog and the more I look at it, the more I like it and the more I think I may have something there.
Wining the primary was not/is not the goal. It was probably a requirement if the goal is to be reached but winning the primary and winning the White House are not the goals. Winning is a republican goal. It is one of the reasons they are good at it. Nothing matters to them but the winning and anything they do that results in winning is therefore justified. Liberals are supposed to be different. Winning and losing take a backseat to moving the nation forward. They are nothing compared to individual rights, respect for the Constitution, and ensuring that children don't die simply for choosing stupid parents. I'm no mind reader but, I think perhaps the rancor against Hillary is rooted in that it appeared that she took a very republican approach to winning, a scorched earth policy that does not serve to move us any closer to respectable, deserving Liberal ideals.
We haven't won shit.

Well, we had better take off the kid gloves and gird for a street fight. If we don't "win", we can't change a damn thing. Let's get real. Let's get behind Obama. Let's win. Then we can be Liberals again.

While I agree whole-heartedly that we must win. However, we must not become that which we despise in the process. John McSame has plenty of weaknesses that can be exploited in a way tht will not lead to charges of lying or omitting inconvenient facts. We must win in a way that does not require lying about or by our candidate.
We have to win but we can't win like republicans. We can't violate or circumvent the Constitution. We can't present ourselves as true while living a lie.
Hillary had a ton of positives on which she could run. But, at the end of the day, you have to respect the wishes of the voters. Spinning, lying, manipulating are republican behaviors and we expect them do those things. Violence, murder and, mayhem are terrorist behaviors and we expect them to do those things. Liberals and Americans respectively HAVE to be better than that OR, the republican terrorists have already won.

Brother, listen to what you are saying. Read your post again. Now, read your comment. Already you are on the defensive. We have no need to lie, cheat or do anything of the sort. We must simply go on the offensive, tying Bush to McSame and reminding the American public of Bush's betrayal of trust. Forgive and forget and let's focus on the "current issues" will quite possibly lose this election for us. WE have no need to lie or cheat. We only need to voice the facts, much the same way the Republi-cons have voiced the lies that got us where we are, by going on the offensive and restating them until they finally sink in.
We need to make examples of the current corrupt administration so that others in the future, both Dem and Repug, will not attempt the same again. Let the Repugs cry foul, we must lift our voices higher, make our points stronger. When attacked by those of the "Swiftboat" ilk, we must respond quickly, loudly and decisively, rather than try to remain "above" it as Kerry did. Had Kerry simply said, "Okay. You know my service record. How does it compare to Bush's?" Let's go over it point by point. In fact, I'd like to discuss it with him publicly, in a debate forum, just tell me where and when.", the shitstorm would have been stillborn.
No. We cannot afford to sit back and let their bullshit derail us again. And if you think the swiftboating of Kerry was bad, wait till they start on Barack Hussein Obama.
