STOOPENDOUS SHOUT OUT!!!
Yesterday was a great day for being outside, whether for the Mermaid Parade, a stroll in Prospect Park, or a marathon stoop sitting session. We joined a small but exuberant contingent of neighbors last night for the "All Slope Stoop Shout Out" at exactly 8:31 PM (the "official" time of sunset). I'm always surprised at just how fun it is to make a lot of noise. Of course, our little crew was so loud it was difficult to hear whether other blocks were also participating.
The people watching last night was great because so many people were out enjoying the fine weather. A bicycle rickshaw passed by our stoop twice. The second time he passed by with a load of young ladies (I'd say around 11 years old) whom we saluted with an additional round of noisemaking. Of course, I wanted my readers to share the joy, so I captured the glorious din in exciting surround sound. If you listen to the whole clip, you can hear my favorite sound, which is the resonant twang that results when a nine-year-old whacks a light pole with his stickball bat:
