This week's featured bugs are hoppers, which belong to the order homoptera.
As I discussed in an earlier post, homopterans are often lumped in with the hemipterans, which are known as true bugs. Despite their irresistable cuteness, hoppers are among the most destructive insects in the ecosystem. They are the stuff nightmares are made of - that is, if you are a succulent plant.
I've named this rogue's gallery of insects after some famous human hoppers just for fun. If you click on the links, you'll get the Wikipedia biographical sketches of these folks.
Unfortunately, I couldn't find any biographical information on the actual hoppers.
