Block Beautification Award

Kudos to Key Food for replacing the aromatic array of garbage bags that made the south side of Carroll Street a fly, rat and roach sanctuary with a fresh flower market.

The flowers look great, the staff is friendly, and the prices are very competitive. I scored two dozen roses for $10, and they were in excellent condition. Just make sure you have cash, because that's the only form of payment they accept.

Most of the flower markets in Park Slope are either Mom & Pop bodegas or high-end specialty stores. Key Foods is a regional grocer, with several stores in Brooklyn. Does this new line of business make them a "daisy chain?"

I'll stop now.

The new market. Gerbera daisies. Proud petal pushers.
